Assignment 1 - Type of Business

Assignment 1: Idenitfying the type of business is the first step in developing a feasibility study for a potential commercial recreation enterprise. You MAY NOT use a non-profit or government (city, county, state or federal) entity. The intent of this assignment is to teach students the process of developing a commercial (for profit) recreation business feasibility study. Whether the proposed business is successful (profitable) or not has no bearing on the assignment grade. The majority of feasibility studies here and in the business world are not potentially successful. That is the point of developing a feasibility study. All businesses must be located in the United States.

The guidelines are included below.

Deadline: Assignment 1 is due on Monday, February 5th by midnight. No late assignments will be accepted.

Important Note: Restaurants and bars are not acceptable businesses for this assignment. Retail operations are strongly discouraged.

CAUTION: There are two reasons to pick a specific commercial recreation business:

1) Because you can get the necessary information for the project from friends or an existing commercial recreation business. This is the easiest method and usually grades well.

2) You have a burning desire to start a particular commercial recreation business and are willing to go the lengths necessary to locate the required information. This is a more difficult method and the grading is usually lower due to the fact that much of the required project information is not readily available.

Please select a type of business that will enable you to find all of the required information for Assignment 2 Business Demand and the Feasibility Study assignments.

Grading Basis:

Assignment 1, Type of Business is worth 5 points.

Example: 100 (possible total assignment points) / Your assignment grade 5 points = 95 (assignment grade) x .05 = 4.75 total grade points out of a possible 5.

Assignment 1: Type of Business (5 points): Due: Monday, March 21st.

Important Note: Restaurant/cafes and bars are not acceptable businesses for this assignment. Retail operations are strongly discouraged due to the difficulty of developing the start-up inventory
Example: My business type is a bike rental company. It will offer beach bike rentals along the Virginia beach boardwalk.
